Customer Challenge

Provide a single pumping solution to support both irrigation and high-flow fire protection for a development with insufficient domestic water storage to meet required fire flows.

PPS engineered a station that draws from two large irrigation storage ponds to supply irrigation and fire hydrant service through a common discharge main. Two automatic discharge filters were integrated into the station to filter all water before it enters the distribution system.

The vertical turbine system was designed to deliver the required fire flow while irrigation demand is present, allowing the development to use its pond storage for both applications.

Harmonic control to meet utility requirements.
ABB Ultra-Low Harmonic variable frequency drives were incorporated to minimize harmonic distortion and meet Idaho Power’s IEEE harmonic requirements. These drives help limit the high-horsepower pumping system’s impact on the utility’s electrical distribution network.

Project Coordination

The remote location, unfinished site access, and approaching winter required careful delivery planning. PPS coordinated transportation of the prefabricated building from Boise to Donnelly before heavy snowfall could restrict access for large trucks, trailers, and cranes.

Early delivery reduced weather-related risk and allowed the station to be set in place before winter conditions compromised site access.
