Zilker Metropolitan Park, Austin Texas • Water Harvest Pump Station
This custom water harvest pumping station designed for Zilker Park in Austin, Texas, was engineered for two specific customer needs. It is engineered for both rainwater harvesting distribution and dewatering of the water storage cistern. Zilker Park recently added a 5 story parking structure that incorporated a premeditated conveyance plan to capture and reuse the rainwater runoff for the park’s irrigation. The catchment system of the garage feeds the rainwater runoff to an adjacent cistern that is approximately 53′ tall with a capacity of 315000 gallons. This custom PPS rainwater harvest pump station utilizes the cistern storage water for specific irrigation zones throughout the park’s landscape area. Because the stored water is prone to algae growth, this PPS pump station, rated at 17 GPM at 80 PSI, is equipped with a V200F Filter and an adjacent UV filter to treat the water, preventing algae growth from entering the irrigation distribution system. Because Austin, Texas, is known for seasonal torrential downpours at certain times, which could cause the cistern storage to overflow, this station also includes two dewatering pumps rated at 200 GPM at 40 PSI for dewatering of the system to prevent overflowing of the cistern out into the property and parking structure. The dewatering pumps are also timed to empty the cistern once every 60 days to help prevent algae growth and keep it from entering the distribution system.
